Happy Birthday to my sweet Gracen girl! This really has been the fastest year of my life. Guess that's what happens when you have two crazy girls to take care of. Watching Gracen grow, learn & explore the world has been a true joy for me. She brightens all of our days and totally completes our family. We love you so so SO much Gray Gray!
Measurements:
Height: 30 inches (75th percentile)
Weight: 24.5 lbs (90th percentile)
Her head was also in the 75th percentile but I have lost the little piece of paper with her measurements on them. Oops...
Eating
She has been SO over bottles for several weeks (except she loves her bedtime bottle) but she loves drinking water out of her sippy cup. So far she seems to like every cup she has tried. She can also drink out of a straw and thinks she is big stuff when doing so. We threw out all of her bottles this weekend and made the switch to milk. She loves it! The first night she had a hard time falling asleep without her bedtime bottle in her nightly routine. But, the next night she went down like a pro. I am happy to have a bottle free household. Hooray!
She's pretty much on a breakfast, lunch & dinner routine with a couple of snacks thrown in throughout the day. For breakfast she loves to eat oatmeal, cereal bars, cheerios or yogurt. Lunch is usually grilled cheese, turkey or macaroni & cheese and some fruit. Dinner is whatever we are having (a meat, veggie and always give her more cheese). Snacks are yogurt, applesauce, blueberries (she LOVES these), cheerios, hard boiled eggs, bananas, graham crackers, cheese & crackers, etc. Now she has a cup of milk at each meal & what she doesn't finish I save for her snack time.
Gracen loves to eat and hasn't really met a food she didn't enjoy (well she didn't like brussel sprouts haha, but everything else is game). She loved the black olives and black beans when we went for Mexican. She's my good little healthy eater ;)
Sleeping
We are down to one nap a day, sigh. She has never been much of a napper and lately she would just cry and stand in her crib during her afternoon nap. I finally just decided to cut it out. Now she wakes around 8 and stays up until around noon or one. I feed her lunch and lay her down and she will usually sleep for a couple of hours.
She goes to bed around 7:30 or 8:00 and always lays right down and falls asleep. She has started sleeping with her "Twinkle Twinkle Little Violet" dog and loves to cuddle on him. She also sleeps with two blankets, one that keeps her warm and another that she holds onto. She is such a sweet sleeper.
She rarely wakes up in the night and if she does will usually fall back asleep on her own. Lately, when she wakes up in the morning, I have found her quietly playing in her crib with her doggie and babbling to herself. She generally wakes up in a good mood and is excited to go downstairs for breakfast.
Temperament
She is LOUD, really loud! She screeches, shrieks, yells and babbles all day long. She shrieks when she can't get a toy to work right or when Leighton is playing with something she wants or when she wants to be held or wants to play outside. Oh my she is a feisty little thing. She knows EXACTLY what she wants and isn't afraid to make noise until she gets it. We've been doing some baby signs but instead of signing she just says the word haha. I'll sign "more" and she will say "MO!" She also says "night-night" , "bye-bye" , "hi" and imitates words & sounds. She is so much different than Leighton who was SO SO quiet. Leighton baby signed everything for years instead of talking. To this day she still signs "Please" when she says the word.
We keep trying to teach her to blow a kiss but she just makes the "smooch" noise and will hold her hand over her mouth haha. She loves to wave "hi" and "bye" to people when we are out in public and always waves to everyone in the room when she is getting carried upstairs for bed.
She is shy around new people and loves to act bashful and hide her face with a little grin. She hates riding in her car seat and will grunt, screech and squirm until she falls asleep. I am PRAYING she grows out of this soon. Otherwise I think we may all go crazy driving to the beach in a few weeks!
She doesn't really like to share Mommy or Daddy with Leighton. If she is in our lap and Leighton comes over she will push her away and scream. Thankfully Leighton just shakes her head at her and doesn't get her feelings hurt. Leighton is a great big sister. Gracen always wants to play with anything Leighton is interested in and is constantly trying to keep up with her big sis. She really does think she is the coolest girl in the world (which she totally is).
Details
She loves to cuddle and sit in our laps. She likes to read books, rock her baby dolls and she is OBSESSED with sitting in any small chair she can find. She spends a lot of her days climbing in and out, in and out, of all the little chairs in our house. We got her a little pink chair & ottoman for her bedroom and she is in love.
She also loves to climb; stairs, stools, furniture, whatever she can climb SHE WILL! I find her on top of Leighton's art desk at least once a day. She is a wild woman. She has six teeth with a seventh popping through on the bottom right. It's halfway through so I guess she technically has six and a half teeth :)
She loves to play patty-cake and peekaboo. She pretends to sing in her microphone and loves to dance and wiggle all around when she hears music. Lately we have been saying, "How big is Gracen?" and she laughs and throws her hands up in the air and we say, "SOO big!" She thinks this is a really fun game.
She would play in the playroom all day long. She is completely content playing with her play kitchen or taking all the toys out of her basket. The playroom is by far her favorite room of the house.
She isn't walking yet but will take 5-6 steps at a time and I constantly find her in the middle of a room just standing and smiling. I am pretty sure this milestone is right around the corner. I think I'm ready...maybe?! :)
Sister Stats
The girls are still so close but we have had several sisterly love fights these past few weeks ;) Gracen likes to play with whatever toy Leighton has and she isn't fond of sharing Mommy or Daddy. There is still plenty of love between them. They giggle together and wrestle and just love each other so much. It warms my heart and makes me smile.
Here are Leighton's 12 months measurements:
Height: 29.75 inches (75th percentile)
Weight: 22 lbs (75th percentile)
One year down with Gracen but a lifetime ahead to look forward to. I love these two girls so much!

We are so blessed by this little angel!!!
