Leighton had quite the birthday celebration this year. It lasted three days which is pretty fitting because she is the big three now. Her birthday was Friday and Toby and I had all her presents waiting for her downstairs that morning. It was so fun to see her expression because she had not seen any presents or even wrapping paper in the days leading up to her birthday. It was kind of like they had magically appeared. Her only request for her birthday was pink flowers :)
When she came down the stairs she was so giddy and sweet. She made a beeline for the gifts when she spotted them and kept saying, "I love them so much."
Gracen thought the presents were amazing and threw a fit when we wouldn't let her open them. She had to be pretty much restrained the whole time Big Sis was opening her gifts lol. Once they were opened she really enjoyed checking them all out. She amazes me at how old she acts sometimes. Leighton was sweet to include her and share her new goodies. Always a good Big Sis!
After presents we got changed and took our birthday girl out to her favorite place for breakfast. She ordered french toast and bacon and was so happy to tell everyone that she was "THREEEEEEE!" Before we left the house I found one more gift I forgot to lay out. Leighton looked at me like, "aw Mom you shouldn't have..." and decided to take it with her to breakfast.
After breakfast Leighton said she wanted to go shopping (Leighton ALWAYS wants to go shopping) so we took her to run a few errands. She managed to find a baby pink bunny she couldn't part with. Gracen was content playing with Leighton's new mermaid the whole time. Leighton wasn't too excited to head home but once I reminded her we could play with her new toys & eat a baby cupcake she decided it would be okay to head back.
We spent the rest of the day playing with all her new goodies and watching "Enchanted." I took her to get ice cream and didn't make her take a nap. I think she had a pretty great day :)
The next morning we woke up and headed to Kings Island (yes, we went during the heat wave, we are officially crazy). It was my nephew, Kyle's, tenth birthday and we wanted nothing else than to spend the day with him and celebrate his birthday! Leighton is in love with her cousins Kyle and Lyla. We met them at the park and when she saw Kyle she went running full speed to give him a hug. I really can't believe he is 10! Definitely the sweetest and most thoughtful kid I've ever met. We love him so much!
I think, despite the heat, we all had a great day. The lines for the rides were so short and we could pretty much walk onto every ride. Apparently going to a theme park during a heat wave is a hidden secret :) The best part was definitely the water park and I have NEVER appreciated water more than I did when I stepped into the pool haha! The girls loved playing on the water slides and Leighton did her first lazy river!
On Sunday, the birthday celebrations continued! We had a joint family party at my parent's house for Kyle and Leighton. It was a Cinderella/Avengers party! There is not a soul on the planet Leighton would rather have a party with than Kyle (well maybe Lyla).
My parent's house was full of family. Our kids are SO lucky to have so many people who love them! Gracen is always up for some celebrating but she would rather not wear a bow :) They seem to stay in for 5 seconds or less!
Leighton was so shy when everyone started singing "Happy Birthday" she made Lyla blow out her candle!
She was all smiles when it came time to sing to Kyle :)
Both kids got lots of great goodies. Leighton had so much fun opening all her gifts. It was her first holiday where she opened them all by herself and really got into it.
It was a great weekend. I can't believe my little girl is three. We are so lucky to have so many people surround her with love and birthday wishes. So far three is pretty adorable and I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for our sweet girl.
