Hayes Robert...Three months old

Three months old! What??? I've always thought the first three months are the hardest of having a baby. Adjusting to the lack of sleep, crying, nursing, schedules...it can be hard! But, Mr. Hayes has made it pretty easy on us these first three months. He is such a good baby and I know the best is still yet to come. Love this little man!

No doctor appointment this month so we tried our best to get his measurements at home :) He's still our big, lovable, cuddle bug!

Measurements:
Height: 25.25 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 17 lbs 3 oz (95th percentile)

Eating:
Big bub eats every 2.5-3 hours. Still nursing and still gaining weight every day haha. I can't tell you how many times people have guessed he is six months old or more. Nope, just a really big (now) three month old. If we are doing pumped bottles he takes about 4.5 oz but I rarely pump. He does get a bottle of formula during soccer practice each Wednesday since it falls right during his dinner time.

It's just easier to give him a bottle of formula because he is really particular about the temperature of breast milk lol. He isn't as particular when it comes to formula but sometimes he will only take an ounce or two. Still it's enough to get me through practice :) I pump when we get home and have built a nice stash up in the freezer for times when I'm away.

He likes the Tommee Tippee bottles but will also take the Medela bottles. He is NOT a fan of normal nipples and acts like he has no idea what to do if you try to give him one haha. He's the first baby we've had that hasn't gone on a bottle strike. Hoping he keeps it up because it sure is nice be able to leave him for a few hours when I need to and not have to worry about him being hungry. He's a smart guy...nothing is worth a wasted meal in his book ;)

Sleeping:
Sleep is still a work in progress. Hayes is not a fan of sleeping. Too much life to miss I guess ;) He takes about three naps a day (morning, afternoon, late afternoon) and they can range from 20 mins to two hours. He is SO inconsistent with his sleep. His favorites places to sleep are in the swing or in the car. But, don't be fooled, if he is sleeping peacefully in his carseat and you remove it from a moving car he will wake up in minutes!

It's hard to get a consistent nap schedule going with him during the day because we are really on the go SO much. This third baby thing has taught me that you really can't obsess over schedules & routines! Basically Hayes naps when he can and when he can't I just hold him haha. Even if he's tired as long as he's being held he is happy. I spent over an hour grocery shopping one handed because he woke up within minutes of arriving at the grocery. Even carefully laid out plans (like much needed grocery shopping during morning nap time) don't always work out. You really just have to learn to go with it! And we do :)

Bedtime is much more consistent! He gets a bath, PJs (usually onesie under a sleep sack), night feeding, and then goes to bed around 8 every night (just like the girls). He was sleeping in his bassinet in our room but then I realized he had passed the weight limit by two pounds sooo I set up the pack n play. The transition has been a little rocky but he will get used to it (it's only been a couple of days). Once he goes down he was sleeping a 4-5 hour stretch before waking up to eat. Now that we've switched to the pack n'play the stretch is more like 2 hours but I have faith he will work his way back up. Keeping the faith people!!

It's still nice to have a few hours of kid free time in the evening even if I am still up all night :) He does still wake every 2-3 hours after the initial stretch. I do try to put him back in the bassinet or pack n play after he wakes but most nights he will not have it lol. All babies eventually get the hang of this sleep thing so I'm just trying to enjoy my nightly cuddles with my guy. He really is the sweetest guy around ;)

Personality:
Love bug, big guy, Hayes man, Bubba, Charlie (cause we think he looks like Charlie Brown), just a few of the nicknames we have for him. He really is SO lovable, smiley and generally content & happy. We heard his first giggles this month and they are just as sweet as you would think. He loves smiling at his sisters and cooing and oooing and making all sorts of sweet noises. He always has something to say :)

He is a busy body and thinks he has to know what is going on at all times! He loves to be held facing outward and his favorite stroller is the umbrella one. He has NO time for the travel system and being pushed around in the carseat. NO TIME! He insists on riding in the umbrella stroller. It's been a little embarrassing when people have asked how old he is when he's riding and I have been saying "two months." I get all sorts of strange looks like why am I pushing a two month old around in an umbrella stroller. Maybe the looks will lessen now that he's three months hehe. He's the boss people, what the boss wants, he gets. The giant boss too I guess ;)

He still loves his My Baby travel sound machine and we actually bought another one to keep inside (the other stays in the car). I would definitely say these are a baby must have for Hayes!

Details:
He loves being on his tummy and can push himself up really well. We always say he is practicing his push ups :) He's a strong and sturdy fella. He is trying to roll over but I think it may be awhile before he will actually make it. He's got a lot of extra weight to get over haha. BIG GUY, I can't say it enough!

He's also trying to sit up! If you lay him on his back on the boppy pillow he will grunt and stretch trying to sit up. He can hold himself steady for a few seconds upright if he has the boppy around him for support. He really is sturdy! So he has mastered push ups and is now trying crunches. He's a brute!

Siblings:
The girls still love him and dote on him. Having a real baby around has been fun for them. They like to hold him but will ask me to take him back much quicker than they used to. Maybe it's all those LBS. He's pretty lucky to have such great big sisters!

Sibling stats:
Hayes wins again! He's the biggest and the tallest!

Here are Leighton's three months measurements:
Height: 24 inches
Weight: 14lbs 5 oz

And Gracen's...
Height: 24 inches (75th percentile)
Weight: 15lbs 6oz (95th percentile)

AND the pic of Hayes man to compare...

Month three with our guy...sweetness. The big guy sure has a sweet disposition. Our big ole softy :)
