I can't believe a week has passed since we welcomed Gracen into our world. Some moments it feels like she has always been here and at others it feels like it was just yesterday I was holding her for the first time.
She had her one week check up today and she weighs 7lbs 15 oz! That was great news and reassured me that nursing is working out perfectly for us. I thought it was going great, she latched like a pro from the start, seems content after feedings and sleeps for good stretches at night, but it was still nice to be reassured by the doctor that she is thriving.
I don't plan to do this every week of her life but I wanted to write down a few things I want to remember about our first week with Gracen. I started this blog with the intention to make each year into a book so our family can always have these special memories that I would have forgotten otherwise. Here we go :)
-Gracen is much more laid back than Leighton was. She really only cries when she is hungry. Otherwise during the day she is content to cuddle, swing or lay in the Nap Nanny (night is a little different, lol).
-I would hold her all day long if I had the time. I feel a little guilty that I can't hold her all day like I did when Leighton was a baby. But now I also have a crazy toddler who keeps me on my toes :) It makes me cherish the time I get to sneak in cuddles!
-She has a little red birthmark on her right thigh just like her Aunt Kylee. I have a white birthmark on my back that I've always kind of liked so I hope she learns to love hers as well. It makes her unique :)
-Her hair STILL makes me swoon ;)
-She doesn't cry much but when she does...watch out! Baby girl has a temper! If I'm not ready to nurse her immediately she will shriek and even make herself hoarse from yelling so loud. Toby and I get tickled at her little temper (proof she is our second baby, we were always freaked out when Leighton would throw a fit). We say the temper comes from her Da-da:)
-She prefers to be held at night. She doesn't seem to like the Rock Sleeper or her bassinet. I went and bought the Nap Nanny after hearing people rave about it and she will sleep in it for a few hours at night but somehow she always ends up swaddled tight in my arms (I then have to sleep sitting up because it makes me nervous). My goal is to get her sleeping in the bassinet full time at night. I think once we get this settled we will be doing great! I don't plan to move her out of my room for several months. Leighton was six months old so thinking about the same time with Gracen.
-Leighton calls her "sissy", "Baybee" or "Gray-gray" They are in love with each other.
-Speaking of being in love with each other...these two :)
-Grammy stayed with us for the first week and helped us out so much. She fixed dinner, helped take care of Lei, let mama take naps, ran errands and was just great company to have around. I was sad to see her leave but didn't have an emotional breakdown like I did when she left after Lei was born :) Second baby seems a little easier on the ole emotions!
-EVERYONE says she looks just like Toby. I don't really see it but I guess since so many people have said it to me there must be some resemblence :) It kinda drives me crazy when people say it over and over so I am trying to not let it bother me (okay, maybe the ole emotions are still as crazy this time too).
-Leighton helped me give Gracen her first bath today since her cord fell of yesterday (growing up so fast already). Gracen was not a fan of laying in her tub but seemed to like getting her hair washed and loved being swaddled afterward. They looked so cute and clean after I was finished not to mention they smelled like heaven :)
-The last week has been pure bliss. We are so happy to have our second little girl and know the past week is just a glimpse of all the wonderful things to come. Gracen is so perfect and we couldn't be happier or more grateful for all of our blessings!
