Toby and I have wanted a whippet for years now. We came this close to adopting one before Leighton was born but once she came we realized adding another dog to our family was just crazy talk. Ain't nobody got time for a new dog AND a new baby! :)
We dropped the idea for years but at the beginning of the year we decided to approach it again. The time felt right. We knew we didn't want a puppy but we REALLY still wanted a whippet. I found a whippet rescue organization (WRAP) online and I contacted our local representative. We placed an application on file with her but she told us that she did not foster very many and she had no idea if we would ever get one through her.
But still, we waited. We had our hearts set on a whippet (isn't it fun to say whippet) and decided if it was meant to be it would just be. About a month later, and minutes after a conversation I had with Toby where I tried to convince him to just let me get a much easier to obtain Greyhound (he told me again to just be patient), we got an email from our representative saying she was getting a new foster and asked if we would still be interested.
As you can see I told her OF COURSE we would and two weeks later he was ours. We had plans to change his name but once we met him we decided he just looked like a Luke (his name from his original owners) and decided to keep it. It fits him and we don't have to teach him a new name. I do think we will end up calling him Lukie or Lu. Our girls add an "ie" to almost anything they love. Amos quickly became "Amie" to Lei so I'm thinking "Lukie" is just a matter of time :)

We already love him so. He has added some much needed smiles to our household and is truly so sweet and loving. He cuddled with me all night which made Amos pout for a bit under the bed haha but by this morning they were fast friends. They enjoyed a nap together after some chasing around in the backyard. He is such a sweet addition to our family and has helped to remind us to SMILE...if even just a little.
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. --Psalm 37:4
Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love, support and prayers this last week. My last post on what was read at Missy's service has had more hits in two days than my whole blog had last month. That is an awesome thing and I am so warmed to know that people are learning what an amazing person she was. May her memory live on forever and ever. Oh how I miss her everyday.
