Holiday Happenings

Our house has been in the holiday spirit for a while now ;) Our trees went up the weekend after Halloween (not kidding) and we've been listening to Christmas music since before Thanksgiving. We love Christmas and like to streeeeetch it out a bit ;)

Several weeks ago the girls decided they wanted to meet Santa. Toby was off work so we headed to the mall to meet the big guy. When we got there the girls froze up. Both wanted to stalk him from behind a potted plant but no one was too excited to go sit in his lap. Sooo we walked around a bit and ate lunch while they got their courage up.

Eventually they decided they were ready and we headed back to meet the big guy. There was no one at the mall that day which meant no lines to Santa (yay!). Both girls were able to take their time walking up to him. They both did eventually decide to climb up in his lap. Leighton did all the talking and told Santa what they wanted (Lei wants bunk beds for her babies & Gracen wants an art easel). And we got a semi-cute picture. Win!

After meeting Santa the girls were ALL about celebrating the season ;) They had a pizza picnic dinner in their playroom and watched Miracle on 34th Street. I love how much they love to be together. Warms my heart.

We've also made a Snoopy gingerbread village. Daddy even helped with this project :) I told everyone to smile and this is the picture I got. Little boogers.

They did love this though. We found Leighton eating the rest of the icing straight out of the bag. She has sweet teeth!

I was impressed with how long this kept their attention. Everyone was very serious about their doghouse decorating. Even Toby haha.

Next up on our holiday fun list...Leighton's Christmas Program at school. This may have been my favorite. She was SO excited to sing and perform for us. She had been reciting her class' bible verse for weeks and singing all her songs nonstop. I think her excitement was written all over her face. Such a doll!

She was so adorable during the performance. She was so into singing all the songs and doing all the motions. It was our first parent program and we realized we have many years full of these ahead. Fine by me :)

Grammy came to watch her show and Lei was SO happy. We went out for ice cream after and of course Lei shed a few tears when it was time for her to go home. Little Grammy's girl. It was such a sweet night. Love my big girl.

And last in our holiday happenings, but definitely not least, our Little Elf arrived. If you remember, last year with the Elf didn't go so well (read Lei was terrified), so we were hoping for better results this year. Lei was surprised when she got hom from school to find a package from the North Pole on the porch.

The girls excitedly brought him inside to open but Leighton started to get a little shy. Notice how she's standing back. The little guys creeps her out still lol, BUT she wants him to stay.

Inside the box was Little Elf (on ice) with a letter from Santa. Santa explained who the elf was and how he would be staying with us for a while. He also reminded the girls of a few important things about Christmas...

• It is always better to give than to receive
• God loves you SO much
• You can help others because you have Jesus in your heart
• We have Christmas to celebrate Jesus' birthday

The girls have been happy to have him around and when Leighton was praying before bed she said, "I hope you see that Gracen and me are doing nice things, Amen" So sweet. I love having lots of fun Christmas traditions but I always want my girls to remember that we celebrate Christmas because it is Jesus' birthday. I'm thankful for Leighton's preschool and Sunday School that have helped remind her of this.

Annnnd that about catches you up on what we've been up to the last few weeks. Today we are heading to Toby's hometown of Corbin for an early Christmas celebration. We can't wait. I'll leave you with a few extra pics from our holiday fun so far :) Happy Weekend!
