When I found out I was having another girl I immediately started planning for her nursery and this time I wanted to go all girl. With Leighton we were a little "untraditional" for a girl's nursery. Her furniture is antique black and her bedding is a combination of toile, gingham, stripes, polka dots & flowers.
Actually, here it is...
I love Leighton's nursery. It is easy to find accessories to match because of the black & white polka dots and I think it fits her personality perfectly. One thing I have been searching for months now to find is a children's standing mirror in black for her room...if anyone knows where I can find one please share :)
Finding out I would be welcoming a second princess was a surprise to me (I thought because my pregnancy has been so drastically different that it was going to be a boy) so after the initial shock wore off I was ready to start buying for her nursery!
First, I found bedding that I loved.
I love this bedding because it is soft & feminine but also has blues & greens in it.
I am going to paint the room a color called bay-mist. I have never been a fan of pink paint and this blue is actually really feminine.
Next, I was on the hunt for the perfect furniture in white. When we knew we wanted black for Leighton's nursery it seemed everyone had white but no black. This time it was just the opposite...so many black collections to choose from but not many whites. There were a lot of rubbed whites, vanillas and vintage whites but I didn't feel like those would work with the bedding. I did find a couple of snow white collections I liked but I felt like the furniture was SO masculine (hard edges, boring hardware, no detail) and I wanted something for a princess :)
I decided to try one more store and there it was...the girliest of girlie collections :) In PETAL PINK! It is perfect.
The pink is really subtle and can only be noticed when standing up close to it. From afar it looks white. It is really sweet for a baby girl & I love the details on the headboard and I am in love with the hardware on the dresser.
Toby has fallen in love with an over-sized glider that reclines with a REMOTE CONTROL (such a man). I have to admit I love the idea of being able to recline the chair during those middle-of-the-night feedings without waking the baby or even having to MOVE (I am lazy like that). Plus, there are tons of fabric choices to customize it perfectly so I think I am sold too.
Here's the fancy chair (obviously we won't be ordering in this color)...
I can't decide what color fabric to use on the chair. I am leaning toward light green with light pink cording but I don't know if I should try and incorporate blue into it instead. I am hoping the designer at the store can help because as much as I am trying to be a designer, a designer I AM NOT :)
With all the BIG decisions out of the way, I need some accessories. I am leaning toward this canvas painting...
and maybe this too...
I want scalloped valances for the two windows in her room that I can get monogrammed but I do not know where I am going to get those and I plan to order those after everything else is in place because I just can't picture what color would be best.
I also want a small area rug, a children's standing mirror and some small knick knacks to add a little personality. But all of those are last minute additions and since our furniture won't be in until mid-June, I guess I have some time on those. Sigh...I hate all this waiting :)
I am getting so excited about the idea of having a house full of girls. Matching dresses, bows, babydolls and hugs & kisses galore. What could be more sweet than that? Plus, Leighton is already such a Daddy's girl that I know baby G will be just the same. There is something so sweet about having your husband melt when it comes to your little girl.
I can't wait to get started on the new nursery. Once it is finished it really starts to kick in that you are bringing an actual baby home to live. Here's to

I love everything you picked!! you have such good taste! Its funny how times have changed, I am 100% sure that when my parents were preparing for my arrival they were not in the least concerned about how to decorate a nursery and I don't think there were even all these options ~ love it!
