We packed up her new backpack ("pack-pack" as Leighton calls it) and got ready for the day.
If you're wondering why her backpack is SO large it's actually the second backpack I ordered, the first was a little too small for all the stuff she needed to bring. Only me...
As we were waiting in the carpool lane to drop her off, I had butterflies in my stomach. We decided to do the carpool from the first day rather than walk her in and make it a big production. She has a tendency to be very shy in new situations and has shed tears more than once when we leave her in the nursery. We wanted to make things as easy for her as possible and it seemed to work great. When the greeter came to get her out of the car she grabbed her backpack and went right along. Toby and I were a nervous wreck lol.
To kill time Toby, Gracen and I headed to Starbucks to drown our preschool sorrows in coffee ;) Then we headed to the mall for some retail therapy and before long it was time to get our little girl! She had the hugest grin on her face when she saw us and ran up to the car! It was adorable! We asked her a ton of questions, some she would answer and others she just blew off and pretended to nap (only my diva). She told us she had cake for snack (which I'm not sure is true) and she said "Yes!" when I asked her if she wanted to go back. I think that is a successful first day!
Leighton has grown up so much in my eyes in the last month. She took on the role of big sister so well and now she's a preschooler. When they are babies, everyone says, "it goes by so fast" and it is SO true. It seems like just yesterday I was watching her smile for the first time or take her first steps. Now she's a little girl with so much spunk and personality. I look forward to the years to come but have to remind myself to savor the memories. A lady once told me, "the days are long but the years fly by."
Before I know it they'll be fighting over clothes and asking to borrow my car keys. For now though, I'm happy to soak in the memories of my sweet little girl and her FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!
