Last week we celebrated a birthday, anniversary and wedding. All in 5 little days. Sounds busy? It was! Sounds fun? It was a BLAST.
First up, my little hubby turned 31! I decided to get a babysitter (a rare thing for us) and surprise him with dinner out on the town ;) I told him to come straight home after work and off we headed to dinner at Le Relais.
It is a little french restaurant at the old airport in our town. The food was delicious and they had live Jazz that night. I told his Mom where we were going and she told me she had taken Toby's Dad there when they were dating (it used to be a different restaurant). How neat is that?! We loved our dinner birthday date.
The girls and I made Toby a "cake" full of all of his favorite things...beer, candy, amazon cards, beef jerky, peanuts, gum, etc. I stole the idea from my older sister and used some pinterest pics to help. He was surprised and loved it.
Next up was an early celebration of our five year wedding anniversary. October is one of my favorite months because it houses our little celebration of L-O-V-E. Toby always says he was "born on the second & married on the fourth." This always makes me laugh. We are dorks.
To celebrate our anniversary we headed to Lexington (where we met & married) and headed to dinner at Merrick Inn. The girls stayed with my parents and we had a quiet kid free dinner (our second of the week, has to be a record). (Side note--does anyone notice Thomas the cat stalking me in the picture. That cat truly has it out for me, I'm sure of it!!!).
We had shrimp, steak, wine, bourbon and dessert. We definitely splurged and it was YUMMY. I surprised Toby with a new upgraded wedding band. After all the upgrades I've had the past few years I thought he was due for one too :) I knew it was something he would never ever do for himself so I thought I would jumpstart it for him ;)
I asked the valet to take our picture on the way out. Total dorks...again ;)
Before heading home (it was like 9pm haha) we decided to stop for a drink at Harry's across the street. The place was empty but we had fun staying out a little later...even if Toby did talk to the bartender & waiter about football the whole time ;)
The next afternoon (our actual anniversary...happy 5 years to us!), we headed out to Keeneland to watch the ponies. We decided to take Leighton with us because she loves her some horses but left little sis with my Aunt Jackie for the day (Gray isn't a betting woman). We had Auntie J take a family pic of us before we headed out.
Leighton fit right in with the girls at Keeneland with her boots and oversized sunglasses. We walked straight to the Paddock to look at the horses. She decided she had to go with number 4 (although it was a decision that wore on her because number 8 was pink lol).
Every horse Leighton picked at least showed (came in at least 3rd for any non horse betters hehe). I think we have a future handicapper here ;) But, since she only wanted to bet her ponies to WIN she only had one winning ticket all day!
Still, one winner was enough to get her that baby horsey she'd been dreaming of all day. She decided to name her Rosie after the girl jockey she watched race all day :)
Her winnings were burning a hole in her pocket. She spent them as fast as she won ;) Just like her Mama. Toby and I bet on a horse named "Bull Dozer" because it reminded us of our little wild woman at home and it won too. Ours girls brought us some luck!
After a few hours of fun it was time to head back to get ready for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Leighton was a flower girl for our sweet friends, Lauren and Andrew. Again, we decided to leave our little homebody behind, this time with Grammy but don't feel bad for her because she was having the time of her life. Between Grammy & Auntie J, Gracen got to go to the park, play in water, color, shop, go out to eat and even got ice cream twice in one day. She was in heaven. Before we left for the dinner we got a family picture. Really wish someBODY would have taken off their sunglasses ;)
So much fun already and I haven't even gotten to pics from the main event of the weekend...The wedding of two pretty special people :)
