Taking it off...in the car!

Leighton has never liked her car seat. Not the infant carrier and not the first or second convertible one we bought. As a newborn she wouldn't cry but if anyone was in the back seat with her she would turn her head so you couldn't look at her (D.I.V.A.) until she fell asleep. When she got a little bigger she would squirm & try to wiggle loose the whole time. Again, never really cried but you could just tell she was mad. I swear she used to give me the evil eye through the rear view mirror. It was like she was saying, "Just wait until my teenage years mama, I'll get you back for this!" So yeah, I'm already scared.

She was a really (I mean REALLY) big baby so we kind of thought she was just uncomfortable in the carrier. When she was five months we went ahead and moved her to a rear facing convertible car seat. Same issues. Squirming, wiggling and try to break free the entire time she was in there. After she turned one, I mentioned it to her doctor who didn't seemed worried and actually he chuckled about it. Everyone knows my child's diva-ish nature...sigh. He suggested we move her forward facing since she was plenty big enough (90% for weight & height). So, at 15 months we moved her forward.

Again, same issues with a new twist added in. Not only did she squirm and wiggle but she also started to pull at her clothes. Mostly just her shirts. This started her daily trend of "taking it off in the car." Insert major mama sigh...

What? This is helping me get out!

It WILL work one day!

Not today but SOMEDAY!

All this work makes me sleepy.

We've tried everything to get her to stop. Snacks, books, toys, music, conversation. We've begged and pleaded with her not to ruin another cute outfit (there have been many couture casualties through the months) but nothing seems to work. Again, she is not crying, not ONE SINGLE TEAR just some of her notorious "looks" and lots and LOTS of pulling. We've gotten to the point where we let her ride shirtless if it is a particularly expensive or extra adorable outfit and we just dress her when we arrive at the destination. It's become a common staple of our car rides and it doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.

Just a couple of days ago...

What?!! Your kid doesn't do this too?

So, here's to hoping she'll stop one day. Maybe when she has her baby sister beside her to keep her company. As my brother-in-law said, "Let's just hope she stops by the time she's 18!" We can hope but I don't think we'll be holding our breath!
